I’m sure there are a lot of young adult gamers out there who are also parents. After all, the gaming industry is growing more and more adult all the time. That’s not to say there aren’t plenty of games out there for the kids too. Although, as a parent, I’m sure a great deal of thoughts have run rampant in your mind at some point or another. All leaning toward a desire for parental controls. What if they see the horrible aspects of the internet? Or the abusive language of frustrated gamers during an online match. Or even just the games that are an age rating too high for them?
Well, Sony has got your back because they have integrated a great control system on the PS4 that allows you control over all of this. I am going to take you through a quick guide about how to get this system up and running. Also we’ll look at how to modify the console to behave exactly in the way that you want it to, when the kids are playing.
How To Set Parental Controls
First of all, you’ll want to turn on the PS4 and sign into YOUR account, not the kids’. Then, on the top menu bar of the Playstation home screen, fly over to the right until you have the Settings option. Head in there and scroll down to Parental Controls. You’ll then want to go down one option and select Create Sub Account.
Next, you will see a series of information boxes about what you’re getting into and the benefits of the PS4’s parental controls system. Eventually, it will send you an email to confirm that you want to register the child’s account as being subject to parental controls. This will be the same email as the one you use for your Playstation account. Now, you’ll have to get off the PS4 and onto your PC / laptop. A lot of people feel like this is starting to be a bit of a mission. Worry not! We’re nearly done here. Once you click the link on your email, you’ll be directed to Sony’s website. Pop your email details into the login screen (as before, the details that are tied to your PS4 account). Once you’re through, simply fill in the details.
Going back to your PS4, you can enter your passcode and go to town on whatever it is you want to restrict. This is back in Parental Controls and Restrict Use of PS4 Features. I’m confident that you’ll find everything you need in here. This will ensure your child maintains a gaming experience that is appropriate for their age. If they end up borrowing a copy of GTAV from their friend, you needn’t worry anymore about their innocence being sucked away by gangsters, hookers and robberies. I hope you enjoyed this article.
