Not too long ago, some of you may have seen a quirky trailer for a new game called That’s You! In the trailer a family gathers around the PlayStation and gets up to all kinds of party games. They involve drawing, selfie manipulation and text based challenges. What you may not have realised is that this Playlink tech is not a one off in the form of That’s You. It’s an entire segment of the PlayStation Store.
Many hardcore gamers may have discounted That’s You when seeing it. After all, it’s not the involved kind of intense experience we’ve come to like. Yet, Sony could well be onto something here. With their Playlink technology, Sony is making their console appeal to an even wider demographic than they already have. All you need is a smartphone / tablet to get involved! Sony will able to perform a perfect balancing act between casual gamers and harcore. Basically, the PlayStation 4 will become a product suited for literally everyone! Now, alongside the Playstation VR, this appears to be the final trick up their sleeve. Or should we say, the final nail in the coffin for Xbox?
We only currently see three other titles (Singstar is listed in the above image but not on the PlayStation Store)available in the Playlink section of the PlayStation Store. But reading their descriptions proves intriguing as they display a lot of potential for a return to couch co-op gaming and party games. More importantly, games for several people in one room!
Knowledge Is Power, out in October, is a game in the style of a TV quiz show. Why go to a pub quiz when you can have one at home whenever you like? Hidden Agenda, the most interesting of the bunch is also out in October. As an Until Dawn style murder mystery, players can team up to resolve mysteries. Or, receiving private messages available only on their screen, they can scheme to double cross others in the living room and take the glory of resolving the mystery themselves! The last one is Frantics. Out March next year, Frantics places us in a Tim Burton style world of what appears to be stop motion kind of characters. Watch your private screen for secret information and missions. All the while, a scheming and charming fox will encourage of you to bribe and meddle your way to top place.
Playlink is a technology that makes sense after features like screen syncing with YouTube. So take a look on the PlayStation Store and see for yourself. We feel this could explode in a big way. After all, you have a smartphone, right?
