You may recognise developer, Uber Entertainment if you played their recent title, Wayward Sky. In it, we learned the team are very capable of generating well designed, cartoonish environments. Dino Frontier is no different in its art style. What sets aside from Wayward Sky completely is how we’re expected to play it.
As Mayor in this whacky world, it’ll be up to the player to micro manage all aspects of a cowboy / dinosaur frontier. Sure dinosaurs can be dangerous to your townsfolk. Yet, when things gain momentum, the player will have learned to domesticate dinosaurs. Funny how a velociraptor suddenly becomes adorable wielding a six shooter and donning a big hat!
As we learned in Tethered, VR is surprisingly adaptable to the table top, Black & White style of RTS. This is what makes Dino Frontier one of the more interesting titles to come to VR of late. Physically reaching into the game world to pick up your workers is going to be a lot of fun. A bit like a more involved Dungeon Keeper, players can drop townsfolk onto resources to harvest them, building plots to build them – so on and so forth.
If resource gathering, economy management and fending of bandits and dinos is your thing, Dino Frontier will be for you. It arrives on the Playstation Store August 1st
